Paul Medina

"There is a Way"

mixed media/ photo collage

Medina, born in 1951, is a self-taught artist who began as a painter with Dali and other Surrealists as his heroes.  Medina is a thoughtful man of many opinions, but esoteric art theory doesn't invade his work.  He doesn't sketch and, in fact, thinks it's a waste of time.  he has developed a personal iconography that evokes intense emotions from viewers; emotions he may not have intended but welcomes.  His unique combinations of recognizable imagery relates him to the original Surrealists.

Medina is neither a moralist in the Renaissance tradition nor a teacher or lecturer.  In his periodic use of words, he is more a journalist who records a thought or an idea hoping it will mean something to the person who is looking at it.
