AL ALLEN

"Encounter with Bliss"
acrylic on canvas
Al Allen, at Louisiana State University in late 40's and early 50's, extensively studied with New York Artists (artists in residence) Karl Fortress, Ralston Crawfor and Louis Guglielmi.
Al Allen's direction as a painter has been somewhat different in that his work (paintings) have evolved from the very abstract and expressive to a more controlled, ordered and precise style. From 1964 to about 1980 his works were called acrylic constructions since he actually incorporated materials such as tin and wood in his sectional paintings. Since 1980 his works have generally been called "romantic precisionist."
